Today, while you continue the merciless killing of your Brain Dump list (click here for my real time updated list) we are going to explore how our overwhelm impacts our environments.
Get out your camera and start taking pics! Take pics of your kitchen, your refrigerator, your car, your desk, your closet. Take pictures of your skin, your teeth, your hair, your body. Anything and everything that you can see - take a pic. When you are done take a second to look at your pics. Do you like what you see?
The truth is overwhelm manifests itself in our physical environment. Overwhelm prevents us from washing our faces at night, brushing our teeth twice a day, or eating enough fruits and veggies. Overwhelm causes the smallest of tasks to seem daunting resulting in leftovers piled up in the refrigerator, sinks full of dirty dishes and closets full of out of season, out of style clothes.
If you find yourself looking at these pics and feeling sick to your stomach - remember that these pics represent where you are STARTING. They are not where you will STAY. In fact, at the end of your challenge we will do another round of pics so you can see your progress - so don't worry and don't judge! This will improve I promise.
As you look at these photos, ask yourself what type of self-care can you do that might improve what you see in your appearance? Write yourself a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror or refrigerator or program a reminder alert in your phone. Find a way to "remember" to take care of you. This will help you build a habit that puts you FIRST.
What type of help do you need in your home? Are there other people who could assist you? Is there money in a budget for outside help? Pick one area of your home that you can de-clutter and set a timer for 10 minutes. Go! When the timer stops - you are done - regardless of whether or not the task is finished. If it needs more work - you can do ten more minutes tomorrow.
In the meantime, you have a life to live! You've done enough work for today. Go be you! :)
